Honorary Degree Awards

The honorary doctoral degree provides your college or university with the opportunity to recognize and honor persons who have made exceptional contributions to a specific field or to society in general. Board Policy 3.18 authorizes all MnSCU colleges and universities to grant honorary degrees, and System Procedure 3.18.1 identifies the seven awards that may be conferred, provides guidelines for the selection of the recipients, and specifies how the awards may be presented.

The names and biographical information for past recipients of MnSCU honorary degrees can be found at Honorary Degrees.  If your college or university is interested in honoring an exceptional person this year, whether it be an alumnus, a contributor, or other person of significance, then consider this as a reminder to start planning now for the May commencement. I will request information about the honorary degree recipients this summer in order to post the information on the MnSCU web site.

If you have questions or need further information, please contact Jon Dalager at 601-201-1684.
