DESCRIPTION:Topic: Our AI Accessibility Journey: From Experience to Action \nThis conversation will focus on these kinds of questions: \n\nWhat has been the experience this year with AI and accessibility? What did we learn from that? What do we want to do in the future based on this learning? \n\n\nWhat is being done differently across campuses in terms of support for accessibility services\, including what technology tools and support services students and faculty have access to. \n\n\nWhat is missing in support of accessibility? \n\n\nWhere are there equity gaps across campuses in the use of accessibility strategies and tools?  \n\n\nHow do we emphasize disability justice and anti-ableist pedagogy as a lens for AI use and accessibility? What work is or is not already done in this area? \n\n\nWhy do we need to focus on accessibility? What are the civil rights issues at play? Education justice?  \n\n\nWhat are the nuances of implementation? Different students need different tools\, scaffolds\, and support. So do faculty! \n\n\nWhat are easy strategies that everyone can use with AI tools we all have access to through the university to easily implement accessibility strategies? For example\, Microsoft Copilot for formatting written directions for student assignments. \n\n\nConversations with Colleagues is a welcoming\, virtual gathering space designed to connect faculty and staff across Minnesota State. Whether you’re joining from your office\, your kitchen table\, or between classes\, bring your lunch and your curiosity as we come together to share ideas\, ask questions\, and learn from one another. \nNote: To prioritize real-time sharing and connection\, these sessions will NOT be recorded. \nEach session begins with a brief 5–10 minute presentation that introduces a timely or thought-provoking topic. From there\, we move into dynamic\, facilitated discussions\, both in small breakout groups and larger conversations\, where participants can explore the topic more deeply\, exchange perspectives\, and discover new approaches to teaching\, learning\, and working in higher education.  \nThis year\, our topics are guided by the Minnesota State Network for Educational Development theme – Empowering Every Learner: Strategies for Universal Access. DESCRIPTION:Summer 2026 OER Learning Circles\nMay 4 – June 14\, 2026\nApply by April 3 \nCollaborate with other Minnesota State faculty who are committed to saving students on the cost of textbooks and course resources. \nThere are 5 Project Types:\n\n\n\nRedesign a course around OER.\nCreate ancillary materials to complement an existing OER.\nAuthor a primary course resource.\nOER Course Update – update an OER course that was previously redesigned in an OER Learning Circle cohort (at least 4 years ago).\nOER Legacy Project – instructors thinking of retiring soon can use this as a chance to preserve wisdom and share their expertise for future faculty and students.\n\n\n\nIn addition to virtual weekly meetings\, OER Learning Circles will utilize a D2L Brightspace course to support faculty and will take place over an eleven week period. \nCompensation\nParticipants receive compensation in the form of release credit equivalency (RCE) of $1750 in combined salary and fringe.* \n*Minnesota State University\, Mankato faculty receive compensation in 2.5 duty days. \nInvite a high school Concurrent Enrollment instructor partner\nMinnesota State faculty who collaborate with high school instructors in one of our Concurrent Enrollment (CE) programs can invite their CE partner to participate with them on their OER Learning Circle project. Only the Minnesota State faculty partner needs to apply using the link below. It can be difficult to help students develop executive functioning skills while also delivering course content. The book Educator Toolkit: Helping Students Cultivate Academic Skills and Habits provides downloadable\, customizable resources for faculty and tutors to help them incorporate study skills into assignments\, lectures and class activities so students simultaneously learn content and study skills. \nAbout the Presenters\nKathryn Klopfleisch and Elizabeth Kellett teach at Inver Hills Community College in Minnesota. Kathryn has worked in higher education for a little over thirty years now. Her degrees are in English and Adult Literacy and she teaches English\, reading and study skills. She has written a study skills book geared for students\, and has collaborated with liberal and technical faculty to provide direct study skills instruction and curriculum for students. Elizabeth has over 20 years of experience teaching English at all levels\, including many years of writing center work. She’s seen first-hand how assisting students with executive functioning skills can help them to achieve their goals. \n\nOpen Educational Resource (OER) Community Conversations are open forum conversations for all to share\, discuss\, and learn from colleagues in the Minnesota State OER community. DESCRIPTION:Faculty Learning Community\n2026-2028 Cohort\nThe Minnesota State REFLECT program brings together faculty from across disciplines\, institutions\, and experience to participate in a 2-year Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) faculty learning community. \nMinnesota State REFLECT scholars are supported as they develop\, implement\, and present research results at a conference. Participants will meet for a fall retreat and then monthly (September – December and January – April) to continue progress\, share ideas\, collaborate\, and to obtain consultation and support. Project data will be collected in fall of the second year of the program. \nParticipants will receive financial compensation in the form of release credit equivalency (RCE) of $3500 in combined salary and fringe each year. \nMinnesota State REFLECT focuses on SoTL specific to the context of a faculty member’s classroom and the relationship between their teaching and their student’s experiences and learning. Learn more about the BOT Awards.\n \nFacilitated by\nKari Frisch\nCentral Lakes College\n2019 Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence Educator of the Year \n  \nRead Kari's BiographyKari Frisch is a proud 1988 alumna of Central Lakes College (formerly Brainerd Community College) and a current instructor there. She has taught communication courses full-time for more than 25 years and has also served in several part-time educational development roles. Kari is the recipient of the Instructional Technology Council’s 2015 Outstanding eLearning Educator Award and the Minnesota State Board of Trustees 2019 Educator of the Year award. A graduate of the Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity train-the-trainer program in 2002\, she continues to apply one of its core concepts—Windows & Mirrors—in her teaching and professional practice and is excited to share more about that with colleagues through this presentation.\nWindows\, Mirrors\, & Gray Matters\nIn a world that seems increasingly polarized with “us vs. them” mentality and “all-or-nothing” thinking\, it’s time to see beyond the black and white\, and look into the various shades of gray. What once started as a curriculum tool to analyze children’s books in elementary classrooms\, the Windows & Mirrors theory can now be expanded to teaching and learning concepts across all types of educational levels and contexts. \nCome learn how to use this engaging framework across various disciplines to not only develop deeper connections to the concepts being taught\, but by better understanding the “gray matters” how we can also build deeper connections to each other as well. \nIn this session (with reflective breaks built-in) you’ll not only be introduced to the theory’s history and foundational components\, but you’ll be given ample opportunities to participate in interactive application examples where you’ll be challenged to apply the concepts yourself for a personalized learning experience. You’ll also witness the scaffolding power this framework has to foster deeper connections which can contribute to building a more empathetic learning community. \nFinally\, there will be time to creatively develop some new ideas for how to apply the theory in your own specific job. DESCRIPTION:March 23 – April 19\, 2026\nShort Course\nDescription\nThis four-week short course is designed to build foundational skills and knowledge for engaging in the Equity by Design methodology. Equity by Design is a Minnesota State strategic priority informed by the work of McNair\, Bensimon and others\, who have shown that one path toward closing equity gaps in higher education is through a race-conscious\, data-informed\, and equity-minded collaboration. \n\nModule 1 orients you to the course navigation\, goals\, and facilitators.\nModule 2 defines key terms\, introduces the Equity by Design methodology\, and shares connections to other Minnesota State initiatives.\nModule 3 provides further detail for each step in the methodology and supports skill building for conducting critical inquiry.\nModule 4 offers a guided process for defining\, implementing\, and sustaining Equity by Design interventions with plenty of practical examples. Module 5 provides resources for Equity by\n\nDesign work based on role including advisors\, deans/administrators\, faculty\, presidents/president’s cabinets\, and student support staff.
