DESCRIPTION:October 19 – November 8\, 2026\n\nShort Course\nDescription\nIn this 3-week introduction to disability justice course\, you will learn about disability justice\, practice using inclusive language\, and apply strategies to interrupt ableism. \nYou can expect to create documents and/or find ways to apply your learning right away\, including options like: \n\nWrite/revise inclusive accessibility statements\,\nDraft an email/letter to a decision maker advocating for a change through multiple means of communication\, i.e. email\, letter\, conversation\, etc.\nPractice strategies for addressing ableist language and microaggressions\,\nBrainstorm ways to re-design a campus space\, and/or\nApply inclusive language to campus communications and course documents.\n\nCourse Learning Objectives:\nBy the end of this 3-week short course\, participants will be able to: \n\nUse inclusive language and accessible design in communications. \nInterrupt ableist language or microaggressions. \nAdvocate for change grounded in disability justice. \n\nModules\nEach week we will focus on different key concepts and skills. These essential questions frame these key topics for each module: \n\nModule 1: What is disability? What is the social model vs. medical model of disability? SUMMARY:Culturally Responsive Pedagogy/Open Educational Pedagogy (Fall 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Both Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (CRP) and Open Educational Pedagogy (OEP) can offer us insight and support as we shift to bring students quality education. CRP advocates that education utilize student’s lived experience; OEP advocates that education empower students as partners in the creation of course materials and disciplinary knowledge. When we understand these as two sides of the same coin\, we can create educational experiences in which students draw upon their own lived experience to further the knowledge within our disciplines. In doing so\, we build our students’ confidence in the value of what they bring to the classroom setting\, and we let them practice the skills (and joy!) of being actors in the world and contributors to the social good. \nIn this webinar\, we’ll have the opportunity to examine the overlaps between CRP and OEP and collectively explore how we might bring our current practices more closely into alignment with the best practices they advocate.
