SUMMARY:Accessibility Remediation Sprints: Creating Accessible Video Files 2 (Spring 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Note: This is a repeat of the Creating Accessible Video Files 1 (Spring 2026) session. \nJoin us as we review an accessibility report for a video file.  We’ll identify criteria in an accessibility report that commonly passes and fails and provides participants with guidance on how to make basic changes to their content that address these accessibility standards. \nAlthough the facilitator will be unable to provide one-on-one assistance to all participants\, time will be allocated to allow participants to review their own accessibility report for a video file and to practice some of the strategies. \nAbout Accessibility Sprints\nD2L Brightspace now features Accessibility+\, an integrated tool that scans course content and conducts an automated accessibility audit based on WCAG 2.1 standards (Levels A\, AA\, and AAA) and ISO 14289 for PDFs. \nInstructors receive a detailed accessibility report outlining which criteria were evaluated and whether each passed or failed. \nAs faculty work to remediate materials\, they may encounter criteria that are unfamiliar or require strategies they have not yet developed. To support this process\, a series of Accessibility Sprints will be offered during the Spring 2026 term. SUMMARY:Accessibility Remediation Sprints: Creating Accessible PDF Files 1 (Spring 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we review an accessibility report for a PDF file.  We’ll identify criteria in an accessibility report that commonly passes and failes and provides participants with guidance on how to make basic changes to their content that address these accessibility standards. \nAlthough the facilitator will be unable to provide one-on-one assistance to all participants\, time will be allocated to allow participants to review their own accessibility report for a PDF file and to practice some of the strategies. \nAbout Accessibility Sprints\nD2L Brightspace now features Accessibility+\, an integrated tool that scans course content and conducts an automated accessibility audit based on WCAG 2.1 standards (Levels A\, AA\, and AAA) and ISO 14289 for PDFs. \nInstructors receive a detailed accessibility report outlining which criteria were evaluated and whether each passed or failed. \nAs faculty work to remediate materials\, they may encounter criteria that are unfamiliar or require strategies they have not yet developed. To support this process\, a series of Accessibility Sprints will be offered during the Spring 2026 term. DESCRIPTION:February 2 – 22\, 2026\n\nShort Course\nDescription \nThis course is intended for Minnesota State faculty who are either teaching or planning to teach an online or hybrid course and are interested applying evidence-based strategies for humanizing the learning experience through effective facilitation and course design. The course is online and asynchronous. Although there are no scheduled class meetings\, participants may engage in virtual meetings with other students and course instructors as needed and at their convenience. The course is designed to take no more than 10 hours of work per week to complete.  \nThis is a facilitated\, collaborative learning experience that models many of the humanizing strategies that instructors might choose to include in their own courses. Participants will learn experientially by engaging with an instructor and colleagues from across the system in activities that showcase humanizing practices in action.  \nFaculty will develop their professional knowledge by reviewing the current theory and research in the area of humanizing online learning and engaging in independent reading in their own disciplines\, contributing what they discover to a shared knowledge base. They will then reflect on their own teaching style and practices and select evidence-based\, humanizing instructional strategies for implementation or refinement in their own online courses. This includes access to the Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) prep course. \nYou don’t need to take the CPACC exam to benefit from this course. It’s a great way to build your understanding of accessibility and learn practical concepts that help everyone. \nJoin a supportive learning group! This cohort will meet monthly to discuss the course\, share ideas\, and take action together. \nOutcomes\nBy the end of this cohort\, you’ll be able to: \n\nTalk about disabilities\, challenges\, and assistive technologies.\nRecognize accessibility and universal design practices.\nReflect on accessibility standards\, laws\, and strategies.\nGet ready to take a CPACC practice exam.\n\nSchedule\nWe will meet four times on Zoom for discussion and collaboration. DESCRIPTION:Spring 2026 OER Learning Circles\nFebruary 9 – April 26\, 2026\nApply by January 9 \nCollaborate with other Minnesota State faculty who are committed to saving students on the cost of textbooks and course resources. \nThere are 5 Project Types:\n\n\n\nRedesign a course around OER.\nCreate ancillary materials to complement an existing OER.\nAuthor a primary course resource.\nOER Course Update – update an OER course that was previously redesigned in an OER Learning Circle cohort (at least 4 years ago).\nOER Legacy Project – instructors thinking of retiring soon can use this as a chance to preserve wisdom and share their expertise for future faculty and students.\n\n\n\nIn addition to virtual weekly meetings\, OER Learning Circles will utilize a D2L Brightspace course to support faculty and will take place over an eleven week period. \nCompensation\nParticipants receive compensation in the form of release credit equivalency (RCE) of $1750 in combined salary and fringe.* \n*Minnesota State University\, Mankato faculty receive compensation in 2.5 duty days. \nInvite a high school Concurrent Enrollment instructor partner\nMinnesota State faculty who collaborate with high school instructors in one of our Concurrent Enrollment (CE) programs can invite their CE partner to participate with them on their OER Learning Circle project.
