SUMMARY:Disability Justice II: Spring 2024
DESCRIPTION:March 25 – April 14\, 2024\nShort Course\nDisability Justice II: Intersectional identities\, action\, and justice\nDescription\nIn this course\, we focus on an intersectional framework centering disabled Black\, brown\, indigenous\, and people of color and builds on foundational disability justice topics in the context of higher education to move equity awareness into equity action. Advance your knowledge from Disability Justice I or build on other prior learning and experiences.  \nIn the short course\, you can expect to create documents and/or find ways to apply your learning right away\, including options like:  \n\nReflect on your own identities and ongoing learning in disability justice. \nCurate tools and resources to support a disability justice action or advocacy plan that center disability and race. \nTake action and create an advocacy plan that increases access in meaningful ways from a disability justice perspective\, for example: \nDraft an email/letter to a decision maker advocating for a change through multiple means of communication\, i.e.\, email\, letter\, conversation\, etc. \nPlan ways to re-design a space\, communications\, documents\, media\, and/or \nEngage in collective action that centers disabled Black\, brown\, indigenous and people of color in disability rights actions. \n\nCourse Learning Objectives:\nBy the end of this 3-week short course\, participants will be able to: \n\nLink historical beliefs\, actions\, and spaces to current barriers in higher education. \nConnect disability justice and antiracism advocacy at national\, community\, and campus levels.\nCreate an action plan for disability justice advocacy. \n\nSuggested Audience \nFaculty (Full-time and part-time)\, Instructional Designers and Technologists\, Faculty Developers/Trainers\, and Concurrent Enrollment instructors. \nEstimated Time Commitment \nMost participants are able to complete this course by committing 4-6 hours per week.  \nReflect on your Professional Development \nAs you progress through this course\, please consider how you can use the assignments as a way to highlight your work on your Professional Development Plan.
