SUMMARY:Equity and Advising
DESCRIPTION:May 29 – June 18\, 2023\nShort Course\nDescription\nThis asynchronous 3-week course is offered for the purpose of providing both academic and faculty advisors with the information and resources necessary to increase equity and inclusion in their work. Participants will engage in a series of activities including\, but not limited to discussion\, case study analyses\, and action planning. Participants will leave with a plan to implement equitable change(s) within their advising practice and or unit. Ultimately\, the intent is that participants to not only have a plan upon completion but leave with the doors open to continue one’s diversity\, equity\, and inclusion (DEI) growth and journey. \nCourse Learning Objectives:\n\nDescribe characteristics of equitable and inclusive advising\nDevelop skills for self-awareness and reflection\nIdentify skills that promote strong\, inclusive relationships with students\nReview of DEI resources and tools for engaging in continuous improvement\nCreate an action plan to address equity in advising\n\nSuggested Audience \nFaculty (Full-time and part-time)\, Academic Advisors\, Instructional Designers and Technologists\, and Faculty Developers/Trainers. \nEstimated Time Commitment \nMost participants are able to complete this course by committing 4-6 hours per week.  \nReflect on your Professional Development \nAs you progress through this course\, please consider how you can use the assignments as a way to highlight your work on your Professional Development Plan. Consider sharing your work with your leadership team. \nRegistration Required\nUse the RSVP tool below to register.
