SUMMARY:Quick Wins in Designing Accessible On-Line Courses
DESCRIPTION:Designing accessible online courses is essential to ensure that all students have equal access to educational resources and opportunities. Here are some quick wins to consider when designing accessible online courses: \n\nUse clear and concise language: Avoid using complex language or jargon that may be difficult for some students to understand. Use plain language and provide explanations for any technical terms used.\nEnsure visual accessibility: Use high-contrast colors and avoid using color as the only means of conveying information. Provide alt text for all images and ensure that videos have closed captions.\nProvide multiple formats: Provide course materials in multiple formats such as PDF\, HTML\, and audio to accommodate different learning styles and preferences.\nUse accessible technology: Ensure that all technology used in the course is accessible\, such as screen readers and keyboard navigation.\nAllow for flexibility: Allow students to choose their mode of communication and provide flexible deadlines to accommodate students with disabilities or other challenges.\nMake navigation easy: Ensure that the course is easy to navigate\, with clear headings and a logical structure. Avoid using complex menus or navigation systems that may be difficult for some students to use.\n\nSpeaker(s): Britne Jenke\, Accessibility & Disability Inclusion Consultant\, Gwen Navarrete-Klapperich\, Klapperich International Training Associates (KITA) LLC\, and Sarah Mercier\, Build Capable \nTarget Audience Skill Level: All \n\n \n\nRegister for the 4-Part Series\nThis webinar is part of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals’ (IAAP) webinar series “Introducing the State of Higher Education Accessibility Series: Your Gateway to Digital Inclusion.” \nView all webinars in this 4-part series.\nIAAP Membership Savings\nMinnesota State provides International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Organizational Membership at no cost. \nRegistration for this professional development opportunity for non-members is $2\,500 – so we are excited to be able to offer this to everyone in Minnesota State at no additional charge.
