DESCRIPTION:Installment #1 in the NED Excellence in Teaching SeriesMinnesota State is filled with incredible faculty who are doing amazing work focused on their teaching craft. The purpose of the Network for Educational Development (NED) Excellence in Teaching Series is to continue honoring and showcasing the experience and expertise of the Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence Educators of the Year through the opportunity to present\, share\, or teach about teaching and learning topics that have contributed to their recognition as excellent educators. Learn more about the BOT Awards.\n\nThe Teacher’s Life: Guided Reflection for Renewal\nVirtual Workshop\nFacilitated by: Bill Breen\, Anoka-Ramsey Community College and 2016 Board of Trustees Educator of the Year\nLearn more about Bill Breen\nBill Breen has been teaching English\, literature\, and creative writing at the Cambridge campus of Anoka-Ramsey Community College for twenty years. In addition to his roles on campus as curator of the Minnesota Writers Series and MSCF chapter president\, Bill works with the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop\, a nonprofit that brings creative writing classes and mentorships to incarcerated writers. He is also a recipient of the Minnesota Emerging Writers’ Grant. He lives with his family in St. Paul. \n\nThe teacher’s life is a tempest of prepping\, grading\, emails\, technology challenges\, and committee work. By the time we reach the classroom\, rather than inspired educators\, we often feel like shipwrecked survivors washed upon the shore. Even on our best days\, the inner voices of anxiety\, imposter syndrome\, martyr complex\, and comparisons with colleagues can discourage and deplete us. And\, of course\, all of these challenges and anxieties have only been compounded through the pandemic. \nThis workshop offers an opportunity to hit the pause button on our professional lives\, a time to reflect and reset our intentions for this work we love. We’ll use guided freewriting and discussion to reconnect with our passion for teaching\, dispel the false narratives that burden us with doubt\, and set healthy work-life boundaries.
