Creating a Syllabus Students Understand (Fall 2024)

NED: Foundations

The course syllabus is, as William Germano and Kit Nicholls note in their subtitle of their 2020 book Syllabus, “The Remarkable, Unremarkable Document that Changes Everything.”

In thinking about spring semester, it’s the perfect time to consider elements within the syllabus that can remove barriers to understanding the system of your class and how it works—basically, make it a more welcoming document and, as a result, a more welcoming class. In this webinar, I’ll start with some suggestions on syllabus parts you might consider adding and ways to change up your elements. Then, we’ll have some time to work together on our syllabi for next semester.
