About the Presenter
Dr. Van Gelderen has dedicated her career to supporting perinatal women, newborns, and advancing family-centered care practices. With over 26 years of experience, she provides workshops and consultations in maternal-newborn care, nursing education, family-centered practice, and clinical simulation.
Dr. Van Gelderen is the lead author of the Van Gelderen Family Care Rubric (VGFCR) (2019, 2016), an evidence-based, internationally validated tool designed to enhance healthcare professionals’ skills in family assessment and communication. This tool is recognized by the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning and was honored with the 2018–2019 Articles of Influence award by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. It is currently used by healthcare practitioners and educators in twelve countries worldwide.
Open Educational Resource (OER) Community Conversations are open forum conversations for all to share, discuss, and learn from colleagues in the Minnesota State OER community. Hosted by Karen Pikula, the OER Learning Circle Coordinator, these conversations are virtual, hour-long meetings held twice per semester and feature a guest speaker on a topic of interest.
