OER Learning Circles Fall 2022

What are OER?

Open educational resources (OER) are teaching, learning and research resources that make use of appropriate tools, such as open licensing, to permit their free reuse, continuous improvement, and re-purposing by others for educational purposes (UNESCO). OER include full courses, course materials, modules, textbooks, streaming videos, tests, software, and any other tools, materials, or techniques used to support access to knowledge.

Collaborate with other Minnesota State faculty from across the system who are committed to saving students on the cost of textbooks and course resources. There are 3 options to choose from when participating in an OER Learning Circle:

  1. Redesign a course around OER.
  2. Create ancillary materials to complement an existing OER.
  3. Author a primary course resource.

In addition to virtual weekly meetings, OER Learning Circles will utilize a D2L Brightspace course to support faculty and will take place over a ten-week period. Participants receive compensation in the form of release credit equivalency (RCE) of $1750 in combined salary and fringe.

Timeline

  1. Submit application by August 26, 2022.
  2. Notification of acceptance or denial of applications by September 2, 2022.
  3. Orientation week to get acquainted with your cohort is September 19-23, 2022.
  4. OER Learning Circles will run September 26-December 4, 2022
  5. Present your OER Learning Circle project at one of the four virtual OER Project Showcase Events scheduled in Spring 2023.
  6. Project completed by December 4, 2022.
Funding notice as of 8/11/2022: Participants receive compensation in the form of release credit equivalency (RCE) of $1750 in combined salary and fringe.

    • Applicant and applicant’s SAO must sign Part B.
  2. Complete the Online Application Form (Link) and upload Part B.

Apply for the OER Learning Circle Leader Cohort

For Minnesota State faculty who have already completed an OER Learning Circle cohort, consider becoming an OER Learning Circle Leader to:

  1. Download and review the OER Learning Circle Application (PDF).
    • Applicant and applicant’s SAO must sign Part B.
  2. Complete the Online Application Form (Link) and upload Part B.
