Note: This is a repeat of the Orientation to Accessibility+ 1 and 2
Accessibility+ is a tool embedded in Brightspace that helps identify and improve the accessibility of digital course content for all learners. It scans common course materials, such as documents, presentations, videos, and PDFs, highlights potential accessibility issues based on recognized accessibility standards.
This session will provide a practical overview of how the tool works and how it can support inclusive course design. Participants will see real examples of Brightspace digital content that has been scanned, learn how issues are identified, and understand the criteria used to audit content for accessibility concerns.
About Accessibility Sprints
D2L Brightspace now includes Accessibility+, a tool that automatically checks course content using WCAG 2.1 standards and ISO 14289 for PDFs. The tool creates a report showing what passed and what failed.
As we revise materials, some criteria may be unfamiliar or require new skills. To help, we will offer Accessibility Sprints during Spring 2026. These sessions provide practical tips for improving files that do not meet accessibility standards.
The 3Rs – Remove, Remediate, or Refresh
Remove
Delete content that does not serve a clear purpose or adds unnecessary complexity.
Remediate
Fix issues that are quick and simple, such as adding alt text, correcting headings, improving contrast, or fixing captions. Plan time for issues that need more complex work.
Refresh
If a file needs extensive fixes, it may be easier to rebuild it. A refreshed version can improve layout, clarity, and accessibility.
Refresh
If a file needs many fixes, it may be easier to rebuild or redesign it. A refresh can help you:
- Improve the layout
- Make information clearer
- Use newer, more accessible formats or tools
