2026-2027 NED Theme

Designing and Promoting Deep Learning Experiences in Changing Times

This year’s theme, Designing and Promoting Deep Learning Experiences in Changing Times, invites educators to explore how evolving student needs and emerging tools require shifts in teaching, learning, and assessment to meaningfully reshape education. Deep learning experiences create opportunities for learners to make rich conceptual connections, think critically, apply knowledge in unfamiliar situations, and integrate ideas across contexts.

This theme invites educators to work collaboratively to create and enhance rigorous and engaging learning experiences that are meaningful, equitable, and accessible. To achieve truly equitable deep learning experiences, they must be designed and promoted through asset-based, culturally sustaining and anti-oppressive pedagogies. Accessibility and equity come hand in hand with community, belonging, and diverse ways of knowing across cultures, identities, backgrounds, and experiences.
