Currently, Tutor.com provides systemwide online tutoring services, ensuring equitable access to academic support for students who cannot reach campus or require assistance after hours.
These services supplement local campus resources, offering additional subjects and extended availability that most campuses cannot cost-effectively provide on their own. Student utilization has consistently exceeded original projections, confirming the strong demand and high quality of services.
Tutor.com Contract Extension
The current agreement with Tutor.com to provide online and remote tutoring was scheduled to end June 30, 2026. To maintain uninterrupted access to tutoring services beyond June 30, 2026, and align with current usage trends, the Board of Trustees approved a one-year extension of the Tutor.com contract through June 30, 2027.
Upcoming Request for Information
This extension will allow for a Request for Information (RFI) to be issued to assess what resources and services are available in the post-pandemic online/remote tutoring marketplace and the potential impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as other emerging technologies.
Upon completion of the RFI and a determination of the technical and functional online/remote tutoring requirements of Minnesota State, an RFP will be issued for an agreement beginning July 1, 2027. It is anticipated that the recommendation resulting from the RFI/RFP process will be brought to the Board of Trustees in October or November 2026 for a July 1, 2027 implementation.

Features and Functionalities
In preparation for the RFI process, we are developing a list of features and functionalities which the tutoring community and others would like to see offered to support students and assist staff in that support. This list will be used, in conjunction with the requirements identified in the 2017 RFP, to be the basis of identifying and ranking online and remote tutoring services and features.
