In 2011, MnSCU in collaboration with College Board, began conversations toward customizing our system endorsed placement exam for college level algebra. The move was based on Minnesota’s decision not to adopt the common core standards in mathematics and the general concerns raised by our MnSCU faculty on the amount of trigonometry on the current version of the Accuplacer placement test, which did not align to our state standards.
Beginning in mid-January of 2013, the new customized intermediate algebra exam will be released and those campuses willing to pilot the exam will be able to do so starting in January of 2013. The goal is that by September 2013, all campuses will be using the new customized intermediate algebra exam to place into college algebra.
