UPDATE: Lumina Foundation Credit When It’s Due Grant Confers 355 Associate in Arts Degrees
To date, system colleges and universities have conferred 355 Associate in Arts degrees for students identified through the Credit When It’s Due project. The project began in April 2013 with a plan to continue through March 2015. During the remainder of the grant period, Credit When It’s Due staff will audit an additional 6,500 prospective student records and anticipate hundreds of additional students will be eligible to earn an AA degree.
The Lumina Foundation-funded Credit When It’s Due project aims to promote degree completion rates for transfer students who leave a 2-year college before completing a degree. The project is designed to provide MnSCU colleges and universities with pre-analyzed lists of students who appear to be eligible for Associate in Arts degrees. The candidate pool includes approximately 11,800 students who earned a minimum of 12 credits at a MnSCU college before transferring to a MnSCU university during fall 2008-2012. Through a partnership with the University of Minnesota, 20 of the 355 conferred degrees were awarded to students who attended a MnSCU institution before transferring to any one of the University of Minnesota campuses.
Upon identification of degree eligibility, grant staff work with system colleges and universities to articulate the appropriate coursework and follow processes to confer the degrees.
