Dear Colleague:
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced FY 14 competitions for the Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (PPOHA) and Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) programs. Both programs last made an appearance in FY 10.
PPOHA provides grants to expand postbaccalaureate educational opportunities for, and improve the academic attainment of, Hispanic students; and expand the postbaccalaureate academic offerings as well as enhance the program quality in Hispanic-serving institutions. Approximately $10.5 million is available for 21 awards averaging $500,000 per year. HSIs may only submit one application. The deadline is June 27, 2014. A series of webinars may be offered, but no details are available.
TQPsupports collaborations among school systems and institutions of higher education to recruit and train effective teachers for high-need areas. The current competition offers two absolute priorities (applicants can address one or both) and two competitive preference priorities (up to a combined seven points, one particularly focuses on STEM). Approximately $35 million is available for 20 awards averaging $1.5 million per year. The deadline is July 14, 2014. Webinars are scheduled for June 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., ET and June 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., ET; dial-in information is forthcoming.
GRC recommends that applicants contact the respective program officers for detailed information.
