Name Changes Related to Desire2Learn (D2L)

To:  Chief Academic Officers, Chief Student Affairs Officers

Dear Colleagues,

Please share this news release regarding a naming change to the Desire2Learn learning management system with appropriate individuals or departments on your campus. In addition to explaining the name change, this link provides access to relevant materials and resources that will assist your transition to the new name.

Background

On July 16, 2014, Desire2learn, Inc., announced name changes to their company and their learning environment. The company name officially changed from Desire2Learn to D2L.  The learning environment that clients referred to as Desire2learn, or D2L, was officially changed to Brightspace. Additionally a new logo was published to reflect the change.

As recommended through the system-level academic technology advisory process, the new MnSCU naming convention for D2L at all institutions will now be “D2L Brightspace.”  D2L Brightspace should be used in all campus web sites, communication, and documents (including instructional materials) wherever Desire2Learn or D2L is mentioned in text.

This name change may impact a variety of departments and documents on campus. Departments and areas such as disability services, tutoring services, campus helpdesks, student orientation, prospective student materials, and course descriptions in online course catalogs/schedules.

Once again please share this timely and important information with the appropriate departments on campus.

If you have any questions about the name change transition, please contact Karen Wenz, Lesley Blicker, or me.
