New Academic Program

New graduate program in urban education launched Metropolitan State University has launched its new urban education master’s program. The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees and Minnesota Board of Teaching approved the program on Feb. 18.

This new master’s degree, an Master of Science (MS) in Urban Education, along with its five concentrations, is designed to meet the needs of licensed educators and others seeking professional development, educators who are interested in English as a second language (ESL) or special education, and individuals looking to become licensed secondary teachers in Minnesota with a commitment to working with urban youth and schools.

The School of Urban Education focuses on diverse teachers who can meet the needs of urban youth and improve their educational achievements. The new MS in Urban Education aims to provide further licensure, qualifications, and professional experience to educators teaching in urban schools. Program applications are being taken for summer and fall.
