A reminder that next week is Minnesota’s Precinct Caucus Day, on March 1 (“Super Tuesday).
The General Counsel’s office has a website with full guidance on state law governing what campus activities may and may not take place on a precinct caucus day, and on primary and general election days. Among the requirements are those below. I encourage you to review the full text.
The March 1 date, published by the Secretary of State last May, departs from Minnesota’s former tradition of scheduling precinct caucuses in February. If you have classes scheduled to meet between 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 1, you must cancel that portion of class time. Faculty may use their discretion in rescheduling the class time (assuming campus logistical support), but they may not be required to do so.
Questions/concerns regarding the Precinct Caucus, Primary and Election Day Requirements should be directed to a member of the Office of the General Counsel. Questions/concerns regarding scheduling/rescheduling of classes should be directed to your representative in Labor Relations.
