Regarding the current controversy about the system gaining access to privately owned devices: I understand the reasoning, given concerns about data security and record-keeping. The state has already had at least one huge leak of employee data, after all. However, it seems unmanageable from a systems perspective, since many, many people use at least one personal device to do their work remotely, It could make some sense if MnSCU provided the devices, or if each employee worked at a secure workstation onsite. It doesn’t seem possible to prevent people from using their own devices for work, though, given the way the applications are accessed. I would not mind having a system-owned device or two to do my faculty work, but I would mind giving the system access to or control of my own device.
