Week 9 kicks-off

With the first legislative deadline approaching a week from Friday, many committees are broaching long-standing policy discussions including liquor, fireworks, healthcare, and teacher licensure this week.

Today the Office of Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) will release the state’s economic forecast, known as the February forecast. These economic forecasts are released twice each year and the previous one in November projected a $1.4 billion surplus.

This is the last marker before legislative leaders work to build the state’s biennial budget, making it incredibly impactful on how the state budget comes together.

In the weeks following the release, legislative leaders will share their budget targets, which inform each finance committee how much they can spend in their budget.
