Legislative Update – June 23, 2017

2017 Legislative Summary
The 2017 Legislative Summary (pdf) was shared with the Board of Trustees earlier this week.

On Wednesday, the Minnesota State Board of Trustees approved the 2018 Capital Program. The FY2018 capital program totals $232.2 million and includes $130 million for HEAPR and $102.2 million for 15 major capital projects. The proposed work would renovate nearly 700,000 square feet of academic space and replace more than 230,000 square feet of obsolete academic space with smaller, more effective facilities, ultimately eliminating nearly 80,000 square feet of space.

Even years at the legislature traditionally focus on bonding. The House and Senate Capital Investment committees will kick-off bonding tours late summer/early fall.

Thank you for your engagement and efforts this past session. We look forward to the beginning of the 2018 legislative session on February 20, 2018.
