POET (Program for Online Excellence in Teaching)

For the first time, Lake Superior College is pleased to offer POET (Program for Online Excellence in Teaching), a 12-week online teaching fundamentals class.

This online class will introduce new, relatively new, or any faculty member new to teaching online to D2L Brightspace (D2L), best practices in course design and the intricacies of online teaching and learning.

The Instructor Amy Jo Swing has been teaching in higher education for over 20 years and teaching online for over 17 years. As a Lake Superior College faculty member and as the POET (Program for Online Excellence in Teaching) Training Coordinator, Amy Jo has been involved in many aspects of eLearning, from course design and teaching to quality assurance, peer review and training.

Her course will help faculty learn how to create a logical, welcoming course design, how to set the tone – letting the instructor’s personality come through, and how to meet best practices in accessibility and student engagement. Participants will look at ways to deliver, assess, collect, communicate information and create meaningful learning experiences to enhance student success.

The class starts January 22, 2018 and costs $500 per participant, or $450 if more than one participant from the same organization enrolls.
