Legislative Update: May 9, 2019

The higher education omnibus bill conference committee met again yesterday afternoon, and took more public testimony regarding the House and Senate versions of the bill. Following testimony, conferees adopted identical language between the House and Senate bills, as well as provisions with minor technical differences.

The conference committee is scheduled to meet again today at 2:00 p.m. to discuss specific provisions with technical differences as well as take any additional public testimony. The Senate has the gavel today.

At 12:00 p.m. today there will be a Joint Convention of the Senate and House of Representatives to vote on University of Minnesota Regents. If this floor session goes past 2:00 p.m., the conference committee will meet following the Joint Convention.

As for budget negotiation talks, no progress has been made. This means conference committees do not yet have their budget targets. Governor Walz and lawmakers are scheduled to meet next on Sunday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m.

At 10:00 this morning, Senate Republican leaders will provide an update on budget negotiations. That press conference can be viewed HERE.
