Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence: Nominations due November 1

The nomination guidelines for the 2022-2023 Minnesota State Board of Trustees (BOT) Awards for Excellence are now available on the BOT Awards Connect Page. Log in using your and password.

Award nominations, including the nominees’ portfolios, are due 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2022. Please note the earlier timeline.

The Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence acknowledge and provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement of our college and university teaching and service faculty.

This recognition is the result of the dedicated work of faculty, students, campus and systemwide award committees. Each year, campus committees review nominations and select faculty names to forward to presidents, who in turn designate teaching faculty as Outstanding Educators, and university administrative service faculty as Outstanding Service Faculty. Presidents then forward these names to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and to system-level award committees for review.

Out of that pool of outstanding educators, the Board will identify two (2) college teaching faculty and one (1) university teaching faculty to be named as Educators of the Year. In addition, the Board will name one (1) university administrative service faculty as the Service Faculty of the Year.

At an awards luncheon in the Spring of 2023, the Board will honor all Outstanding Educators and Educators of the Year from our colleges and universities, all Outstanding Service Faculty and a Service Faculty of the Year.

  1. Reduction in number of “Of the Year” Awards from 8 awards (1–ASF, 3–IFO, 4–MSCF) to 4 awards (1–ASF, 1–IFO, 2–MSCF)
  2. For all awards, institution nomination allocation based on Faculty FYE (1 per 100) instead of Student FYE
  3. New timeline with consistent dates from year to year: Call for nominations – March 1, Nomination deadline – November 1

Details of the changes can be found in the 2022-2023 Guidelines and Forms on the BOT Awards Connect Page. The impact of these changes will be evaluated for continuation or additional modification of the process during the next review cycle in FY27.

You will also find in the guidelines an overview for your committee and nominees, plus detailed instructions necessary for compiling the Outstanding Educators and Outstanding Service Faculty Portfolios and President’s Recommendation Forms.

A Board of Trustees Awards in Excellence event is expected to be hosted in April or May of 2023, and details will be available as we get closer to this date. We look forward to continued recognition of your Outstanding Educators and Outstanding Service Faculty to the Board, recognizing excellent teaching and university service throughout the system with an award of high visibility and prestige.
