Start or continue your equity journey with Equity 101

The Minnesota State Network for Educational Development (NED) offers a variety of short courses, webinars, and learning communities every semester for faculty and staff to learn new skills and gain awareness of different topics – like academic equity.

While there is no prerequisite for academic equity short courses, Equity 101 is the recommended starting course. View more courses in the NED Course Catalog (updated every July).

Equity 101: Summer 2024

July 8 – August 4, 2024

The Equity 101 short course is designed to encourage reflection about the structural conditions that inform who we are and how we relate to others.

  • Module 1 explores our individual position within the historical and systemic structures of privilege and oppression, and how those affect our values and worldview (especially as they relate to education and academic achievement).
  • Module 2 considers the social component by turning our reflection outwards onto the identities of our students and institutions.
  • Module 3 encourages us to use our newly acquired self-awareness to examine the effect of inequitable policies and practices in our classrooms and campuses, and to build a professional development plan to continue developing our equity lens.
