Description
This short course is designed for educators seeking to enhance their teaching strategies for math corequisite courses. The course will emphasize practical tools and resources for designing engaging lesson plans, fostering a growth mindset, and building a supportive classroom environment. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and hands-on activities, educators will develop strategies for overcoming common challenges in corequisite instruction and gain insights into the latest research on student success in mathematics. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to create impactful learning experiences that promote confidence and mastery in mathematics for all students. Join us to transform your approach to teaching math corequisite courses and empower your students to thrive!
Audience & Compensation
This course is intended for Minnesota State math faculty who are currently teaching or planning to teach a mathematics corequisite course. The Math Pathways grant will pay the first 25 Minnesota State mathematics faculty participants to register a stipend of $500 (including fringe) for successful completion of the short course in spring 2025.
Outcomes
After the community, participants will be able to:
- Define the purpose and concept of corequisite courses, highlighting their role in enhancing student success and retention in mathematics
- Explore a variety of evidence-based teaching strategies tailored for corequisite courses that accommodate diverse learning styles and encourage active student participation
- Design two to three just-in-time activities that integrate math corequisites with existing college-level course content
- Identify a range of resources that develop essential non-cognitive skills vital for success in college-level mathematics
Estimated Time Commitment
Most participants are able to complete this course by committing 4-6 hours per week.

Course Location
In addition to Zoom meetings, this course is hosted and facilitated using the D2L Brightspace instance of Minnesota State called, MnSite.
