Short Course
Description
Captions, transcripts, and audio descriptions make multimedia more accessible. They help provide additional access for vision or hearing impairments, learning disabilities, noisy environments, non-fluent speakers, and others.
This short course will help you understand the important definitions surrounding accessible media, the existing laws and policy standards that help ensure equitable access. The course will show the importance of having accessible features for media as well as effective ways to add audio descriptions, captions, and transcripts with our existing technology services.
Ensuring that all media is accessible is one way to help improve student success and lead to a more equitable delivery for all.
Course Learning Objectives
After completing the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the importance of having accessible digital media to support equitable student outcomes.
- Create and edit effective captions using Kaltura MediaSpace.
- Create effective transcripts.
Suggested Audience
Faculty (Full-time and part-time), Instructional Designers and Technologists, Faculty Developers/Trainers, and Concurrent Enrollment Instructors.
Estimated Time Commitment
Most participants are able to complete this course by committing 4-6 hours per week.
