Conversations with Colleagues: April

This interactive conversation provides a platform for faculty members to explore students’ use of AI on their educational journey. First, we will view an Educause video Students’ Perspectives on Using AI (8:16) profiling 3 student perspectives on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and then discuss AI’s immense potential to enhance students’ educational journeys.
Here are some ways students might use AI to support their journey and prompts for conversation:
- Critical Perspectives: Engaging with AI means ethical, moral, and legal considerations – such as data privacy and security, bias in generated text/images, social and environmental impact, and inequitable labor practices, among other topics. Explore ways we might engage students in critical thinking about AI development and use in ways that advance equity.
- Personalized Learning Paths: AI-driven algorithms analyze individual learning patterns, preferences, and performance data.
- Virtual Tutors and Assistants: Imagine having an AI-powered virtual tutor available 24/7. These digital companions can answer questions, provide explanations, and guide students through challenging concepts.
- Early Intervention and Support: AI continuously monitors student performance, identifying areas where additional help is needed.
- Content Enrichment: AI can enhance educational materials by generating interactive simulations, adaptive quizzes, and engaging multimedia content.
As we explore these advancements, let’s explore how students use AI serves as an ally in their educational journeys. Bring your questions, ideas, and curiosity.
Conversations with Colleagues is a platform for colleagues across Minnesota State to gather remotely to share ideas and bring questions (along with your lunch). These gatherings are held on the 4th Tuesday of every other month.
Join for an opportunity to engage in rich conversation in both small and large groups and networking with colleagues across the state! We have amazing innovations and work being done across the state and the goal of Conversations with Colleagues is to foster a network of support for faculty and staff across Minnesota State.
You will also be able to add your name to a list of faculty and staff who are willing to share expertise and areas of interest with others.
Conversations with Colleagues is hosted by faculty and staff from the Minnesota State Educational Development Committee.
