From Teaching Innovation to Classroom Research: Using SoTL and IRB

Have you ever tried something new in your teaching to improve student learning outcomes? Many instructors regularly evaluate their teaching informally but rarely share their efforts with others. Perhaps you’ve implemented a new grading policy, redesigned an assignment, or experimented with a new teaching method. Maybe you’ve taken part in a department- or college wide project related to assessment or culturally-responsive pedagogy. If so, you’ve likely already engaged in some Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) practices without realizing it! This webinar will guide you on how to take those efforts to the next level by transforming them into formal research on student learning. You’ll also learn about working with an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure ethical and meaningful research practices.
This webinar is supplemental to the NED short course: Classroom Inquiry and IRB (Feb 17–Mar 9).
