How to be Happy: Building Community in your First Year
Education Developers Connect is an opportunity for educational developers at various Minnesota State System institutions to come together and collaborate on building shared knowledge and resources on teaching and learning and providing support for faculty.
In Spring 2025, educational developers across Minn State collaborated on creating educational development resources on different substantive areas for new faculty as they start their first year of career across different Minn State college and university campuses.
In an earlier meet in Fall 2024, the NED shared a webinar on the 5 C’s. The webinar included tips for new faculty to get started by focusing on themes centered on the 5 C’s: creating Community in your course, promoting Clarity in your assessments with students, Collaborating with colleagues, Communicating with students, and staying Calm. In continuation of that work, this Spring 2025 webinar focuses on the first of the 5cs: creating COMMUNITY. The webinar provides tips, tools, and a plan for building community for first year faculty.
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify opportunities for making connections for new faculty.
- Plan ideas for building community in first year as new faculty member
