OER Community Conversations: December

Facilitators
Nicole Hinrichs-Bideau
Humanities and Film Studies instructor at Century College
Nicole has been active in adopting OER materials for her classrooms, offering courses in a wide variety of formats and modalities, including piloting HyFlex courses.
Nicole compiled her own “text” for Art of Film by using OER and YouTube content from a variety of sources, as well as writing some of her own, to create a malleable and always-evolving text that both covers everything she wants and has the ability to change with new film theory and techniques. Although Art of Film is still a work in progress, Nicole uses simple HTML design tools and can take you through this process. You will see how simple it is!
Becky Groseth
Math instructor at Anoka-Ramsey Community College
Last year Becky participated in OER Learning Circles to completely revamp a Math for Liberal Arts course. She will share some “tricks of the trade” learned while going through that process as well as some resources for curating course materials.
Brandon Shea
Philosophy and Computer Science instructor at Rochester Community and Technical College
Brandon will be presenting on two recent OER implementation projects: Ethical Explorations, which is published using PressBooks and delivered using Perusall, and Databases Through Pop Culture, which uses GitHub and Google Colab to provide a free, interactive textbook for computer science students. You can find copies of most of Brendan’s work at PhilPeople and GitHub.
Open Educational Resource (OER) Community Conversations are open forum conversations for all to share, discuss, and learn from colleagues in the Minnesota State OER community. Hosted by Karen Pikula, the OER Faculty Development Coordinator, these conversations are virtual, hour-long meetings held twice per semester and feature a guest speaker on a topic of interest.
