Welcome Debra Wilcox Hsu

DebraWe are very excited to welcome Debra Wilcox Hsu as the Associate Director, Career and Technical Education in Workforce Development/Academic and Student Affairs at the System Office, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.

Debra has a breadth and depth of experience in CTE, teaching, sign language interpretation, curriculum writing, vocational evaluation, student assessment, student advising, admissions counseling, and support service management. Her doctoral research on educational outcomes for students served by the Saint Paul College Preparatory Program for Deaf Students ultimately led to work resulting in the award of a multimillion dollar grant to the college to establish the Midwest Center for Postsecondary Outreach, an initiative to provide technical assistance and professional development to colleges in 11 Midwest states, the establishment of the Postsecondary Education Programs Network of four national outreach sites and the development of the PEPNet e-Learning Transition Project for Secondary and First Year College Students. Most recently Debra has been the CTE Professional Development Director at MN State Colleges and Universities, bringing sustained professional development leadership and resources to local consortium leaders, CTE administrators, faculty, teachers, and staff in innovative ways targeted to improving CTE in MN, collaborative leadership and data informed decision making.

Debra received her doctoral degree in Educational Policy & Administration from the University of Minnesota, an MBA from Simmons College Graduate School of Management, Support Service Management Training from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, Sign Language Interpreter Training from Saint Paul College and a BA in Psychology from Hamline University. Her experiences in career technical education, professional development and grant administration and leadership are critical for career and technical education in a time of education accountability for student performance. We look forward to her leadership in Minnesota as we embark on a new unified vision for career and technical education.
