Poverty Institute Training, October 20-21, 2014

CAO, CSAO, and Deans:

I wanted to follow-up with you since there was a lot of productive discussion at our last system Academic and Student Affairs conference in regards to how we can more effectively serve our students from poverty situations.  Many institutions have seen dramatic increases to the proportion of students who are living in  poverty in recent years. It was announced at our conference that the Poverty Institute and Certified Poverty Coach Training will be held in St. Paul this October. The Poverty Institute provides practical and effective approaches to better serving students in poverty.  The Certified Poverty Coach Training develops expertise within your own organization to facilitate institutional transformation.  This ties directly in to the Charting the Future core value “Provide an opportunity for all Minnesotans to create a better future for themselves, for their families, and for their communities.”

Let’s strive to have all institutions in our system participate in this valuable training.  See attachment for more details.  Congratulations to the following institutions who will be sending participants so far!:

  • Anoka Technical College
  • Anoka-Ramsey Community College
  • Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Cambridge
  • Century College
  • Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College
