Two MnSCU Faculty Receive an ITC Award

Two MnSCU faculty were recognized at the 2015 Instructional Technology Council’s eLearning Conference on Thursday, February 20, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Only six faculty in total were recognized.  ITC Awards

The two MnSCU faculty are Terry Wiens from Lake Superior College and Kari Frisch from Central Lakes College. Each was recognized as a Distinguished eLearning Educator. Additionally, Kari earned the title of an Outstanding eLearning Faculty–an honor that is given annually only to 1-2 faculty.

Kari_TerryTerry is a longtime biology faculty member at LSC, who used to be a strong skeptic about e-learning. He didn’t think a science lab course could be taught successfully online–but in less than five years, he has developed an Anatomy and Physiology II course collaborating closely with a departmental colleague, and this course has been reviewed by LSC’s POET (Program for Online Excellence in Teaching — www.lsc.edu/poet/) and a Quality Matters peer review teams. Kari, on the other hand, is a very experienced online instructor, whose courses have a remarkably high (95% or higher) retention rate. Kari incorporates a variety of unique features into her online courses, including interesting service learning projects. She also has led many workshops and presentations on online teaching locally and nationally.
