Minnesota State seeks faculty and staff interested in utilizing H5P to create interactive learning content

What is H5P?

H5P makes it easy to create, share and reuse HTML5 content and applications, empowering everyone to create rich and interactive web experiences more efficiently – all you need is a web browser and a web site with an H5P plugin.

H5P content is responsive and mobile friendly, which means that users will experience the same rich, interactive content on computers, smartphones and tablets alike. Learn more

Minnesota State seeks participants in research project

At the end of the 2020-2021 academic year, the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs approved the ASA Technology Council recommendation to fund a four-year research project that seeks to explore the impact an interactive content authoring tool (H5P) has on student learning and instructional practices.

Faculty or staff members who create content to support student learning experiences are invited to participate in this research project. Up to 50 participants will receive an author’s license to use H5P (hosted by H5P.com) at no cost. Licenses will be funded from November 2021 through January 2026

Special Compensation

Participants are welcome to use H5P to create content without licensing their content to others. However, to support open educational resources initiatives, Minnesota State will compensate up to 15 employees who agree to use H5P to develop and apply a Creative Commons license to the creation of any ancillary materials used in conjunction with existing open textbooks.

The Minnesota State system office will compensate faculty members who are represented by MSCF or IFO an amount equivalent of 1/2 credit plus their related fringe. Staff members not represented by MSCF or IFO will be compensated for the number of regular (exempt) or overtime hours (non-exempt) equivalent to $1,500.

Research Project Requirements

Faculty and staff who receive a license to use H5P agree to share data about how H5P is used (e.g.  counts of page views, activity logs, etc.). Participants are asked to attend periodic meetings (1-2 per term to share experiences, etc.).
