What is NextGen?
NextGen is the Minnesota State project to create a new technology landscape to support students, faculty, and staff at our 33 colleges and universities across the state. As part of this project, Minnesota State chose cloud-based Workday as the modern technology solution that will meet the needs of today’s students and campuses.
It will link all 54 campuses and serve as a unified administrative technology system that improves the student experience and streamlines enterprise-wide business processes in:
- finance,
- human capital management (HCM, also commonly referred to as human resources), and
- student services.

Change takes time – and with just about nine months until go-live, it’s a good time to start to get acquainted with all things Workday. Familiarize yourself with the terminology, what business processes are changing, and how Minnesota State is configuring Workday to be the best possible system for all of our colleges and universities. Share what you have learned with your colleagues and pass along the Take 5 Challenge to others. We understand everyone is busy, so a suggestion is to schedule your five minutes of Workday early learning – whatever works for you! “
