An Ever-changing Process: Developing High Quality Open Educational Resources

Developing high quality Open Educational Resources is an ever-changing process that requires innovation, adaptability, vision, and collaboration.

This session will provide a high-level overview of the Educational Development and Technology unit’s evolving process for developing OER for the Open Textbooks Pilot Program, a US Department of Education funded project to develop OER for teacher education programs and how it will inform the development of the Z-Transfer Pathway initiative.

Wednesday, February 28 | 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Lowering the activation energy with OpenStax D2L Course Shells

As part of an institutional partnership with OpenStax, instructional designers at Minnesota State University, Mankato created D2L course shells for all existing OpenStax courses after seeing a gap in availability.

These courses are recommended as easy steps into OER adoption and include instructor materials such as PowerPoint presentations, instructor guides, and quiz banks (when available). These course shells are available to share on the OpenStax website.


Thursday, February 29 | 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Making English Classes Affordable using Open and Library Resources

Find out how Century College English and library faculty collaborate to provide electronic versions of often used novels and other texts, increasing student equity and access, while improving course accessibility and quality.

Participants will

  • Learn how to find and link to free, accessible, and diverse English novels, picture books, and texts in D2L
  • Understand how library content supports the Minnesota State Equity 2030 initiative through providing access to diverse texts
  • Recognize benefits to students including decreasing student course cost, allowing first day course access, and increasing text accessibility

Friday, March 1 | 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

The Z-Degree Initiative: Towards providing a no-cost textbook pathway

This webinar will provide an overview of the Z-Degree initiative, feature presentations on the Z-degree programs at Century College and Minnesota State Community and Technical College, and include the announcement of the recipients for the FY24 Z-Degree funding round.
