Conversations with Colleagues: December
December 15, 2020 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
FreeDescription
Topic: Student Engagement
One of the most common challenges we have as teachers is engaging students. The online environment makes it even more difficult; the pandemic hasn’t helped. Not too surprisingly, it came up more than once at our November Conversation with Colleagues. The topic of our December Conversation will be student engagement.
Ideally, there should be engagement:
- Student > Instructor
- Student > Content
- Student > Student
Which of these do you typically have the most success or challenges with?
Have you noticed a change in the level of student engagement since March?
How have you handled a lack of engagement? What worked? What didn’t?
Co-Hosts
Kate Borowske, Instructional Design Librarian, Southwest Minnesota State University
Dr. LeAnne Syring, Associate Professor, School of Education, Southwest Minnesota State University
When colleagues readied themselves for emergency remote teaching this spring, we all received a powerful reminder in the value of social learning. Colleagues from across the system who had been separated from one another through physical distance came together online to share ideas and learn from one another. We would like to sustain this social learning through Conversations with Colleagues, a program for those who are interested in connecting with one another.
Meet new faculty, gather with long-time friends from across Minnesota State, and bring questions and ideas (along with your lunch) to these monthly gatherings that will include conversation starters and an opportunity for both large and small group conversations. Additionally, you’ll be able to add your name to a searchable list of faculty and staff who are willing to share their expertise and areas of interest with others.
