Micromessaging – The Role of Faculty in Student Engagement and Success
The role of faculty plays a critical function in the experiences of students, not just as foundation for knowledge and skills but also as supportive relationships during their time at the college. However, those same structures can be unintentionally biased, complexities of relationships can have hidden or direct negative messages, where these uncomfortable environments leave students feeling unwelcome or excluded. This opening session explores some of the nuances of building equitable relationships and supportive environments and what we can do to mitigate barriers in current practices with student engagement.
