Generative AI Workshop Series

Does the rapid emergence of generative AI applications like ChatGPT have you rethinking your course assignments? Have you moved from, “What’s ChatGPT?” to “How do I encourage authentic writing when all of my students are using ChatGPT?”

Join us this fall for a series of conversations about the impact of generative AI on writing assignments. We will focus on a specific type of assignment each month: online discussions, essays and other long-answer assignments, and lab and study reports.

Register for each session of the three-part series:

1) Online Discussions: September 13 – Register

2) Essays and Long-answer Assignments: September 28 – Register

3) Lab and Study Reports: October 6 – Register below

Lab and Study Reports

Generative AI Workshop Series

In addition to poems and essays, generative AI applications like ChatGPT can be used to produce sections of lab reports and other types of study reports, complete with sample data. Join us for a conversation about the impact of generative AI on these types of writing assignments. Learn how to encourage authentic writing, spot the inappropriate use of AI, and integrate AI tools into your research activities in productive ways.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how students are currently using tools like ChatGPT to generate contributions to lab and study reports, including sample data, tables, and figures.
  • Evaluate the quality of AI-generated reports specific to your current research assignments.
  • List at least one change you could make to at least one current assignment to encourage authentic contributions.
  • Explain how you will set student expectations regarding their use of generative AI in your research assignments.
