Generative AI Workshop Series

Does the rapid emergence of generative AI applications like ChatGPT have you rethinking your course assignments? Have you moved from, “What’s ChatGPT?” to “How do I encourage authentic writing when all of my students are using ChatGPT?”

Join us this summer for a series of conversations about the impact of generative AI on writing assignments. We will focus on a specific type of assignment each month: online discussions, essays and other long-answer assignments, and lab and study reports.

Register for each session of the three-part series:

Online Discussions

Generative AI Workshop Series

Do you require your students to participate in D2L Brightspace Discussions that engage students in conversation with one another about course topics? Join us for a conversation about the impact of generative AI on this type of writing assignment. Learn how to encourage authentic contributions, spot AI-generated posts, and better integrate AI into your discussion activities as a helpful tool.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how students are currently using tools like ChatGPT to generate contributions to discussion topics.
  • Evaluate the ease with which students could generate high-quality contributions to your current discussion prompts.
  • List at least one change you could make to at least one current discussion assignment to encourage authentic contributions.
  • Explain how you will set student expectations regarding their use of generative AI in your discussion activities.
