Kaltura MediaSpace Webinar: Creating videos that support the cognitive and affective domains of learning

In this webinar, the facilitator will provide participants with examples of how instructors can create videos that support both the cognitive and affective domains of learning.
Cognitive domain: The facilitator will provide participants with a simple graphic organizer that supports the evidenced-based practice of chunking —- helping to reduce the cognitive load on students and hopefully improve long term memory. Instructors can use this graphic organizer as a tool to create a video that delivers content that reproduces information, demonstrates concepts, and applies principles within different contexts (transfer).
Affective domain: The facilitator will showcase examples of ways instructors can use video to support interpersonal interactions with students that can improve instructor presence, build empathy, and foster awareness of student needs.
The facilitator will show participants how to download and install Kaltura Capture, a video creation tool available to all Minnesota State employees. Participants will receive a guided tour of how to use Kaltura Capture to record their webcam and/or screen, upload the video to Kaltura MediaSpace, order and edit captions, and share the video within a D2L Brightspace course. The facilitator will provide suggestions on how to incorporate video production elements like framing a video, making eye contact, capturing quality audio, creating a clean background, and placing lighting.
