NED Partnership Workshop: OLC – Applying the Neuro, Cognitive, and Learning Sciences to Instructional Design (Fall 2026)

Short Course

Join a 4-week NED partnership workshop offered by the Online Learning Consortium (OLC).

OLC: Applying the Neuro, Cognitive, and Learning Sciences to Instructional Design – Participants in this workshop will be introduced to the neuro, cognitive, and learning sciences and how they can be applied to instructional design.

Format:

The partnership workshop includes synchronous and asynchronous experiences. The Zoom sessions offer opportunity to connect and collaborate with Minnesota State colleagues.

  • Zoom Meeting 1 – September 11, 2026 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Complete the QLC Workshop – Monday September 16 to Sunday October 11, 2026 (4 weeks, asynchronous online, hosted in their platform, 8 hours per week estimated time)
  • Zoom Meeting 2  – Friday October 9, 2026 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Critique instructional design theories
  • Explain the connection between attention, memory, and learning
  • Differentiate between extraneous, intrinsic, and germane cognitive load
  • Develop innovative course content, engaging activities, diverse assessments, multi-modality feedback, and effective evaluation
  • Apply neuro, cognitive, and learning science-based practices to instructional design
