Short Course

Description

Whether you are new to online teaching and learning or an experienced user of D2L Brightspace, you can use the pre-formatted HTML Templates and Course Template as starting points when designing a new course or re-designing an existing course. The templates provide you with example materials and course layout that you may copy and edit as appropriate for your needs. This two-week short course will help you learn the skills necessary to apply and edit the provided templates.

Course Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the benefits of using an HTML template for Content pages in D2L Brightspace
  • Create a Content page in D2L Brightspace using an HTML a template
  • Modify multiple HTML elements within a Content page

From the Facilitator

Suggested Audience 

Faculty (Full-time and part-time), Instructional Designers and Technologists, Faculty Developers/Trainers, and Concurrent Enrollment instructors.

Technical Skill Requirements

No prior HTML knowledge is required. However, participants will find it helpful to have some existing comfort in copying/pasting text and navigating D2L Brightspace with the ability to perform basic tasks associated with the following D2L Brightspace tools:

  • Content (creating a Module)
  • Assignments (submitting to an Assignment folder)
  • Discussions (creating a Thread and posting Replies)

Estimated Time Commitment 

Most participants are able to complete this course by committing 4-6 hours per week. 

Reflect on your Professional Development 

As you progress through this course, please consider how you can use the assignments as a way to highlight your work on your Professional Development Plan. Consider sharing your work with your leadership team.

Because we need time to enroll participants into the corresponding D2L Brightspace Course site, we will close RSVPs the Friday prior to the start of this course.
