The NED was established to provide educational development opportunities that are designed by Minnesota State faculty and staff for Minnesota State faculty and staff. These opportunities help build awareness, develop knowledge, skills, and abilities, and provide space for reflecting and revising.

Equity 101 2: Summer 2021 (3 week short course)

Course Learning Objectives 

After completing the course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Define basic language surrounding equity and inclusion
  2. Critically examine ideas about people, perspectives, and experiences that are different from your own
  3. Explain the deficit vs. asset mindset and the importance of the asset mindset
  4. Reflect on your own identity and how it is constructed
  5. Identify some of our own assumptions, practices, and policies that are inequitable
  6. Explain the need for continuing education in equity and inclusion and locate Minnesota State resources for continued growth as an equity-minded educator

Suggested Audience 

Faculty (Full-time and part-time), Instructional Designers and Technologists, Faculty Developers/Trainers, and staff. 

Estimated Time Commitment 

Most participants are able to complete this course by committing 2-3 hours per week. 

Reflect on your Professional Development 

As you progress through this course, please consider how you can use the assignments as a way to highlight your work on your Professional Development Plan. Consider sharing your work with your leadership team.

  1. Is this course full? If so, I hope it is offered again. I just got the announcement in my email client moments ago.

    1. Hi Margaret, this short course is full for this summer, however there will be two more Equity 101 short courses available this fall. We plan on announcing the fall opportunities in mid-July on the ASA Newsletter.
